DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys have put left tackle Tyron Smith and wide receiver James Washington on injured reserve after both players were listed on the team's initial 53-man roster.

Teams are required to place players on the finalized roster in order to be eligible to return during the season.

Smith isn't expected to return until December at the earliest after he suffered an avulsion fracture to his knee in practice last week. Washington was given a return timetable of 6-10 weeks when he broke his foot on Aug. 1. Neither player will be eligible to return until Week 5 at the earliest.

Long snapper Jake McQuaide and cornerback C.J. Goodwin took over the vacated roster spots when the Cowboys re-signed them on Wednesday after they were a part of the team's roster cuts on Tuesday.
