DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys will be in search of a new punter this offseason, that's because it's "considered unlikely" that Bryan Anger will return to the team in 2022 due to his rising market value, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.
Anger was named to his first career Pro Bowl roster and was second-team All-Pro in 2021 after he led the league and set a franchise record with a 44.6 net average on his punts.
The 33-year-old had 24 punts downed inside the 20-yard line and the hangtime on his punts prevented opponents from ripping off big returns - just 6.5 yards per return - which was the third-fewest in the NFL.
The Cowboys brought Anger in on a one-year, $1.075 million minimum contract last year. With the team up against the salary cap this offseason, it appears as if they'll go bargain shopping at the position once again. Although, it's very unlikely they'll get quite the return in value they got out of the minimum spend they invested last offseason.
