A new name has surfaced in the Cowboys' search for their vacant defensive coordinator position.

According to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, the Cowboys interviewed former Bills and Jets head coach Rex Ryan to replace former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who departed for the Commanders' head coaching role last week.
Former Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, former Commanders head coach Ron Rivera, and Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde also interviewed for the job this week.
Ryan compiled a 46-50 record in six seasons at the helm in New York but did lead the Jets to two AFC Championship Games. Ryan was 15-16 before being fired by the Bills before the final game of the 2016 season. He's been an analyst with ESPN since being dismissed by Buffalo.
Ryan built a reputation for being a strong defensive coordinator while running the Ravens' unit for four seasons in Baltimore before getting the Jets' job. He continued that reputation in New York but didn't have the same success in Buffalo.
