92.9 FM ESPN has immediate reaction to the firing of Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Taylor Jenkins.
STATEMENT FROM THE GRIZZLIES:
The Grizzlies parted ways with head coach Taylor Jenkins, despite the team's strong performance this season. Most recently that success has been limited, losing 4 of 5 on the most recent West Coast road trip.
Jenkins, who took the helm in 2019, led the Grizzlies to three consecutive playoff appearances, including their first series win since 2015 during the 2022 season. Under his guidance, Memphis achieved its first division title in franchise history in 2022.
General Manager Zach Kleiman acknowledged Jenkins' significant contributions over the past six seasons, emphasizing the difficulty of the decision given the team's consistent development and success during his tenure. Kleiman expressed gratitude for Jenkins' efforts and wished him well in future endeavors. The Grizzlies now face the challenge of finding a new head coach as they approach the playoffs.
The Grizzlies host the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at FedExForum. Live coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame on 92.9 FM ESPN.
