Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke found himself in serious legal trouble this week after being arrested in Arkansas, creating an unexpected off-court storyline for the franchise. According to reports, Clarke was taken into custody on April 1 in Cross County, located roughly an hour west of Memphis, and booked on multiple charges reportedly.
Jason Smith and John Martin discussed the arrest on Thursday's J&J Show on 92.9 FM ESPN. AUDIO:
Authorities say the charges include possession and trafficking of a controlled substance, along with driving-related offenses such as improper passing and fleeing while speeding. Details about the substances involved and the severity of the charges, whether felony or misdemeanor, have not yet been publicly clarified according to reports.
The arrest comes during a difficult season for Clarke, who has been largely sidelined due to injuries, including knee and calf issues that limited him to just two games and ultimately ended his season early. A key contributor in past years, Clarke has averaged over 10 points and 5 rebounds per game in his NBA career and has been a steady presence in Memphis’ rotation.
Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo acknowledged awareness of the situation but declined further comment.
As of now, the case remains ongoing, with more details expected as the legal process unfolds.
