Celtics vs. Grizzlies Sunday as Memphis goes for franchise wins record: GAME NOTES

·         The Memphis Grizzlies will complete the most record-setting regular season in franchise history when they host the Boston Celtics in a nationally televised tilt on TNT TV, live on 92.9 FM ESPN radio…


The Grizzlies have tied their 2012-13 franchise record for victories in a season (56) and will need to defeat the Celtics in the regular season finale to set a new club record.

·         The Grizzlies have secured the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs, the highest seed in franchise history, and has captured the Southwest Division championship, the first division title in team history.

·         Memphis will set a new franchise record for scoring average (115.7 points, 2nd in the NBA) this season… The Grizzlies defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 141-114 Saturday at FedExForum, setting a franchise record with 55 points in the third quarter alone, the fourth-highest single-quarter scoring total by an NBA team since 1955 and the most in a quarter since the Phoenix Suns had 57 points in the second quarter against the Denver Nuggets in 1990.

·         Memphis closed its Western Conference schedule 36-16 following its win over New Orleans, setting a new franchise record for Western Conference victories in a season.

·         The Grizzlies lead the NBA in rebounds, steals and blocks and will become the first NBA team to lead all three categories since steals and blocks were made official stats in 1973-74.

·         Memphis also leads the NBA in points in the paint, offensive rebounds, second chance points and fast break points.

·         The Grizzlies have won 10 straight home games, all since the All-Star break (last loss: Feb. 16 vs. Portland).

Desmond Bane is on pace to set a new single-season franchise record for free throw percentage (.904)… The current mark is held by O.J. Mayo (.879 in 2008-09).
