NBA’s Leading Scorer Guided Grizzlies to 3-0 Record to Earn First Career Weekly Award
Memphis, Tenn. – The NBA today announced that Memphis Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played for the opening week of the 2026-27 NBA season from Tuesday, Oct. 20, through Sunday, Oct. 25.
This marks the first career Player of the Week award for Jerome, who guided Memphis to a 3-0 record and averaged a league-leading 34.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 31.7 minutes. Jerome led the NBA with 12.0 field goals made per game during the first week of the season while shooting 56.3% overall and 42.9% from 3-point range.
Jerome began his eighth NBA season by scoring a career-high 45 points (17-25 FG, 5-10 3P, 6-7 FT) with seven rebounds and six assists in the season opener on Oct. 21 vs. Utah, a 123-103 Grizzlies victory. He set the Grizzlies record for points in a season opener and became the fourth player in franchise history to score at least 45 points in a game.
The 29-year-old then scored 28 points (11-22 FG, 3-5 3P, 3-5 FT) in Memphis’ 111-108 road win on Oct. 23 at Golden State, contributing to a 17-0 run that helped the Grizzlies erase a 12-point deficit late in the fourth quarter. He then closed the week with 31 points (8-17 FG, 1-6 3P, 14-14 FT) in a 123-112 win on Oct. 25 at Sacramento in which he scored in double figures in each of the final three quarters and set a career high for free throws made.
Jerome, who scored at least 20 points in the second half of all three games, became one of only four players in NBA history to compile at least 100 points in under 100 minutes of playing time in the first three games of a season while also leading his team to a 3-0 record. He joined Victor Wembanyama (2025), Trae Young (2020) and Stephen Curry (2015).
Monday night (10/26) the Memphis Grizzlies take on the Utah Jazz at 8 p.m. live on 92.9 FM ESPN, Memphis' Sports Station.
