The basketball world lost one of its true innovators with the passing of NBA legend Don Nelson at the age of 86. A Hall of Famer, Nelson forever changed the game through his creativity, fearless coaching style, and willingness to challenge basketball convention. As a player, he won five NBA championships with the Boston Celtics before building one of the greatest coaching careers in league history. His 1,335 career victories rank among the most in NBA history, while his up-tempo offenses and positionless style helped shape the modern game. Nelson guided the Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, and Dallas Mavericks, mentoring generations of stars including Dirk Nowitzki and helping lay the foundation for Stephen Curry's arrival in Golden State. "Nellie" was a three-time NBA Coach of the Year.
