A Mississippi judge has ruled in favor of Trinidad Chambliss, clearing the way for him to return to Ole Miss Rebels in the 2026 season after a legal battle with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) over his eligibility. Chambliss sued the NCAA in state court after his request for a sixth year of playing eligibility was denied, even on appeal, because the association said he had already used his allowable five years of eligibility. A judge granted a preliminary injunction, finding that the NCAA failed to properly consider medical evidence from 2022 when Chambliss missed nearly an entire season due to illness and that denying his waiver could cause “irreparable harm.”

The ruling means Chambliss can play for Ole Miss in 2026, though the NCAA may still appeal the decision. If the injunction holds, he’ll return as one of college football’s top quarterbacks, boosting the Rebels’ SEC and playoff prospects.
