ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - After the 50-year career of Mike Shannon in the St. Louis Cardinals broadcast booth has come to a close (pending a post-retirement call back for some 2021 postseason games), his former KMOX co-worker Bob Costas shared his thoughts on the legendary Voice of the Cardinals.

He described Shannon as "authentically St. Louis," growing up in town, playing for and winning two World Series with the Cardinals, moving into the front office, then the broadcast booth and becoming the soundtrack of summer for many fans.

Costas imitated a few of those Shannon-isms that many Cardinals fans can recite and Shannon's classic laugh while on St. Louis Talks:

Costas also joked about a way he's always wanted to honor Shannon, by recreating his classic outfit.

"At least once a year in July or August, when in St. Louis, making sure that the temperature is approaching triple-digits and the humidity is about the same, I feel an obligation to attend a Cardinals game wearing a black polo shirt, black slacks, black shoes, black socks and a black members-only jacket, no matter what the mercury reads," Costas says. "That's my tribute to Mike Shannon."
