Dimitroff: Gurley To Head RB Committee For Falcons

While the Atlanta Falcons and Todd Gurley have agreed to terms of a contract, general manager Thomas Dimitroff reiterated to reporters on Tuesday that the running back will still have a physical.

“We look closely at it. We have language in our contracts that are going to protect us and the player. If the player comes in and has an issue that he might not pass a physical, that’s something that we'll address then.”

The Falcons expect Gurley, who has dealt with a left knee injury since his college days, will pass his physical.

Once officially cleared by medical doctors, and the season underway, how will offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter use him in the Falcons offense? General manager Thomas Dimitroff told the Midday Show that they plan Gurley to be the head of a committee of running backs.

"I think Todd Gurley is going to be at the front of the pack working with our group," Dimitroff told Andy and Randy. "You know we have, we feel, a really good running back group."

"We feel like they all come to the table, interestingly enough, in a big guy in Q (Qadree Ollison) and guys like Brian Hill and guys like Ito (Smith)...and then there's Todd coming to the table. Not only can he run it but he can catch the ball; he can pass protect if he needs to. We just feel like in all, wherever Todd is, wherever Brian is, wherever Ito is and Qadree is, they all are going to come to the table. They're all going to be big contributors in their own way."

"In our minds, we have a lot of versatility there, and we're looking forward to seeing how it all comes together in Dirk's system."
