Report: Ryan converts contract to give Falcons 2019 cap room

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan helped the team out by providing some extra cap space for the 2019 season, accoridng to Field Yates of ESPN.

The Falcons created $7M in cap space by converting $8.75M of QB Matt Ryan's base salary in 2019 into a signing bonus, per source. Wiggle room for Atlanta.

The extra money now in the Falcons' coffers could be used for the team to be active now that NFL free agency is upon us and officially kicks off Wendnesday.

Ryan's coming off of his eighth consecutive 4,000-yard season and tossed 35 touchdown passes last year compared to seven interceptions. He'll turn 34 in May and has five years left on his contract, which runs through the 2023 season with a potential out clause at 2022.

According to the NFLPA Salary Cap Report, the Falcons had $7.16 million in cap space prior to Ryan's restructuring.
