Atlanta Hawks Head coach Lloyd Pierce joined Dukes and Bell to wrap up the season as the Hawks finished their regular season on Wednesday night.
Coach Pierce talked about the change in atmosphere that has happened in the organization.
“The success for me was about what we wanted to accomplish this first year as an organization.” Pierce said “We wanted to get back to credibility, to show the fans that we we’re headed in a direction they would be most proud of. We wanted to create a culture and an identity that represented that, they love watching us play and how we play and they love the atmosphere and I feel like there has been a cultural shift here”
Pierce talked about people labeling him a defensive coach before the season started.
“One of the things is I’m a basketball coach, it’s not as compartmentalized as it is in football.” Pierce said “The most important thing is you learn from your players, our strengths are we can score, and we need to highlight that, we’re not the Pistons of the bad boy era, we have to learn from our players and highlight their strengths.”
Coach said that it is a team effort when they select players in the draft.
“It’s not how much say.” Pierce said “Travis is our GM and he’s going to make the final decision, and with any good organization we all are going to have a say, Travis has been great with allowing us opportunities to sit down and go back and forth.”
