Roswell becomes first GHSA boys lacrosse team to win four straight championships
As the Georgia High School Association lacrosse state championships continued, the Roswell Hornets made history with their 17-14 win over the Milton Eagles for the Division II title, their fourth in a row and sixth in program history. "Not a lot of words, a tale of two halves," Roswell head coach, Bryan Wallace, said after thr Hornets overcame a 10-6 halftime deficit to become the first GHSA boys lacrosse program to win four consecutive state championships.
"They got up early, we kind of adjusted, weathered through it," Wallace continued as he praised his players for their efforts in the second half as they outscored the Eagles 6-1 in the third quarter to take a 12-11 lead into the fourth quarter. "The boys just continued to believe, build some momentum, bang, game," Wallace said of the Hornets second half turnaround.
"When you're winning faceoffs and you can get downhill, it helps a lot in terms of where we are so for us, it was just about wanting it more, the little details," Wallace said of the Roswell players understanding what corrections they would need to make in order to overcome the four-point halftime deficit. "They definitely showed up early and had a lot of momentum," Wallace said of Milton.
"We kind of weathered the storm, figured it out and them put them on their heels and took care of business," Wallace said of the Hornets, who's senior class will graduate having won a state title every year of their high school career. "It's an unbelievable feeling and this senior class deserves that they are getting. They are finishing 81-9, which is incredible, four titles, four area championships, team of the decade," Wallace said.
