Atlanta United Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra joined John and Hugh Friday to talk about the latest with the Five Stripes as they make their return from the MLS international break Saturday night at Columbus Crew.
Bocanegra on how he spent his down time: “I went and got some sunshine and tried to relax a little bit. It was nice.”
Bocanegra on the international break: “It’s taken a little bit of time and we know that. This was a very welcomed break. Everyone got a chance to recharge and refresh.”
Bocanegra on dealing with injuries right now: “Some of the options have been limited, but the guys that get a chance have to step up and play and earn their spot. Injuries happen throughout the season and you just have to push through.”
Bocanegra on having Franco Escobar back: “He just brings a certain energy and aggressiveness that runs through the team. He isn’t talked about as a leader but he leads by example.”
Bocanegra on Tito Villalba: “Whether he is starting or coming off the bench he is electric and can change the game on one play.”
Bocanegra on contract negotiations with Julian Gressel: “He is a big boy and he understands how it works. We will continue to have discussions.”
Bocanegra on Barco’s development: “He is settling into his game and quite frankly settling into the country. He has become more acclimatized and is finally comfortable with the culture.”
Bocanegra then previewed tomorrow’s match at Columbus Crew.
