Atlanta United’s Michael Parkhurst joined Dukes & Bell to talk about the loss to Dallas, if he is comfortable in his role and why scoring the first goal at home is so important.
Parkhurst said the team’s training sessions have been great lately.
“The training has been great the last three weeks.” Parkhurst said “The team has been positive, we’ve had a great mentality and we played well but ultimately it comes down to scoring goals and winning the game and we didn’t get it done. We knows there pressure this weekend to go out there and get a good performance and three points.”
When asked if he was comfortable in his role last week against Dallas.
“I’m comfortable anywhere along the backline.” Parkhurst said “I played outside during my time in Europe, of course it’s been a few years and I’ve gotten older since then, but right now I just want to do whatever I can to help the team win.”
Parkhurst told the guys why scoring the first goal is so important.
“The first goal is always so important when we play at home.” Parkhurst said “Because if the opponent scores the first goal when we are at home, they just sit even more guys back, when we score the first goal it brings teams out of their shell a little bit. It’s so important for us to score that first goal early but at this point we would take a 90th minute goal to win 1 nil.”
Michael talked about Barco’s performance so far this season.
“Barco has been very good.” Parkhurst said “He’s confident right now and that’s important, he feels comfortable on the field, he feels comfortable in his role we need him to be combining with those guys up top.”
