When you look at where Auburn is as a program, how much confidence do you have that he can lead them back to a National Championship?
"I believe in Gus, and the reason why is because he's taken us there before," Spikes said.
Auburn's last appearance in the title game was in the 2013 BCS National Championship. They lost to Florida State 34-31.
However, Spikes' issue with Malzahn comes down to the offense.
"I don't too much care for the offense," Spikes continued.
"I'm not a fan when you have somebody like Bo Nix, and you know his father played the game, and you know he's been taught the game...I don't like when quarterbacks--and it's not just Auburn or Gus--they look to the sideline to get the play from the coach.
"You are tainting, you are choking his development. You're not letting him develop. You're not teaching him the right thing to do; giving the keys to the Ferrari to him to let him drive. So that's what I don't like."
