With the news that Josh Donaldson has agreed to terms with the Twins on Tuesday night, the question is how do the Braves replace his production? One thought floating around is the Braves might try to platoon Johan Camargo and Austin Riley. Dukes & Bell don’t think that’s the best idea heading into the 2020 season.
Carl said that platooning Camargo and Riley isn’t a great plan.
“You just took 100 runs away and 37 homers, so I don’t know where that production is coming from.” Dukes said “If you’re going to say Austin Riley, and Johan Camargo are going to combine for those numbers, and over the course of the year are going to combine for those numbers that might be a possibility. But the reality of that is unlikely because baseball is a rhythm, one night you’re in, two nights you’re not, if you’re an everyday guy the last thing you want is to be pulled for situational things.”
Mike talked about the question mark the team now has at the cleanup spot.
“You want to have the guy that you know can do the job, protecting Freddie Freeman.” Bell said “You have to go back and get that production, otherwise you are starting the season off with a gigantic question mark.”
