Just how bad was former Georgia Bulldogs running back Elijah Holyfield's combine? It could cost him a lot.
At the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis, Holyfield ran a 4.78-second 40-yard dash, posted a 29.5-inch vertical jump and 118 inches on his broad jump.
"Well, it's going to be at the very least a sixth round; he could drop out," said Pauline. "It wasn't just the 4.78. I mean it was the 29 1/2 inch vertical jump, it was the 9-foot-10 broad jump."
Pauline brought out some comps from Indy:
"Renell Wren, the defensive tackle from Arizona State, jumped 32 inches and he's 318 pounds. Holyfield was 217, almost 100 pounds lighter and he was almost three inches shorter on the vertical jump. So, there's really no explosion at all. He did a good job on the bench press... big deal.
Then Pauline talked about Holyfield's limited range at the NFL level.
"He's basically, as far as I'm concerned, a one-dimensional, scheme-limited ball-carrier where you're going to have to run him downhill between the tackles, and even at that he's slow," said the NFL draft analyst. "Maybe he's a short-yardage runner if he gets drafted it's going to be very late and that's why I had him as a sixth-rounder.
