Georgia Tech Head Football Coach Geoff Collins joined Dukes & Bell to talk about the announcement involving a home game at Mercedes Benz Stadium, recruiting and not having a depth chart.

Coach told the guys what he did when he found out he got the job at Georgia Tech.

“Celebrated with my wife in the kitchen of our home up in Philadelphia.” Collins said, “I felt pretty good, we had a great interview with Todd Stansbury, having a good relationship with your Athletic Director is a big deal.”

Collins talked about why it makes sense to play a home game at Mercedes Benz Stadium once a year.

“The recruiting class that is coming in is going to get to play in the best football stadium in the world.” Said Collins “College Football players want to play on the biggest stage and there is no bigger stage than right there in our own back yard, playing at Bobby Dodd is an honor with the skyline in the background but this is another big honor to be able to play there.”

When asked about what type of defensive system the team would play moving forward.

“We just want to try and create mayhem, we’ve been in all kinds of packages in the past.” Collins said, “It’s basically what our players can do, we’re really excited about our players and finding out what types of schemes they will perform best in.”

Coach talked about the philosophy of not having a depth chart for his team.

“Competition exists every single day at every single thing we do.” Collins said, “We don’t have a depth chart, we have guys that are either above the line or are not. If you’re above the line you will get to play and how much will depend on how you’re doing at practice, if you are below the line you won’t play and we will tell you what you need to do to get above the line.”
