Monken will takeover playcalling duties as the team's new OC per ESPN's Mark Schlabach. Meanwhile, Dawgs' offensive play caller last season, James Coley, was named Assistant Head Coach.

"(The hire) tells me that Kirby Smart is not satisfied with the status quo," Radi Nabulsi of UGASports.com said.

"It tells me that Kirby Smart's ready to make a change, at least, either who's calling the plays or offensive philosophy."

Do you see Smart changing the way the offense looks to fit new quarterback Jamie Newman?

"It does work really well with Jamie Newman," Nabulsi continued. "If you look how many times he throws deep balls and the accuracy Jamie Newman has on the deep passes, he's got great touch, great accuracy. And this is a guy, in Todd Monken, who likes to throw that deep ball. He likes to, you know, soften up that defense."
