Editor in Chief for Fansided.com Jason Cole joined Jon Chuckery and Randy McMichael to preview Super Bowl 53 between the Patriots and Rams. Cole on how he thinks the Patriots defense will approach tonight, “Belichick knows that Sean McVay is in Jared Goff’s ear pre-snap so I think Belichick will try to show the most vanilla defense possible until 15 seconds left on the play clock and then show a number of different looks.”
Cole on the impact C.J. Anderson and Todd Gurley will have on this game tonight, “I think Gurley started thinking too much after dropping that pass early in the NFC Championship game and I think C.J. is just going for it and isn’t worried about anything. C.J. isn’t Gurley, especially in space. Gurley is special.”
Cole on the Rams pass rush, “If I’m Sean McVay and Wade Phillips I have to find a way to get to Brady with my front four. I wouldn’t get exotic with too many blitzes because Brady has seen every type of blitz possible. If I’m coaching Ndamukong Suh I would walk up to him and say today is your chance to make the hall of fame.”
Cole when asked who could be the unsung hero, “That’s a tough question. I would go with the Higbee (TE Tyler Higbee) kid. That’s the kind of guy you’re looking at. On the other side for the Patriots I would go with James White, even though people know who he is.”
Cole then said he believes this will be Rob Gronkowski’s last game win or lose.
Cole on this Hall of Fame class and why hasn’t Isaac Bruce gotten in yet, “Isaac Bruce is a great player but we had a great group of fifteen players. We had three first-ballot hall of famers, which you don’t get too often. We had four offensive lineman that should have made it. When you have that collection of players some guys are going to be left out. It’s a great great class and everyone who was there was deserving. We are always going to mess up in the view of a lot of people.”
Cole wraps up the interview by giving his Super Bowl prediction: Rams 27 – Patriots 24.
