Jon Chuckery and Hugh Douglas were joined by Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn who spoke about the Atlanta Falcons second-round pick, defensive lineman Marlon Davidson.
While Derrick Brown got all of the attention at Auburn for his play last season, Chuckery talked about how much of a force Davidson was with the Tigers. Coach Malzahn followed up Chuckery's comments by saying that Davidson is a special player and “one of the top pure football players to come through.”
Douglas then asked Malzahn if Davidson is better inside or outside on the defensive line. Malzahn said he thinks he could play both, which bodes well for the Falcons. Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn notoriously likes players that can play in multiple positions. Malzahn went on to say that if he had played tight end for Auburn, he would be an All-SEC caliber player.
Douglas emphasized that Davidson likes the physical confrontation that is necessary to play his position and wondered if he was that nasty player in the trenches that the Falcons so desperately need. Malzahn said that Davidson is super competitive and it does not matter what he is playing, he is trying to win every time. Coach went on to say how great of a young man Davidson is and that he will be a great locker room guy for the Falcons.
With the addition of Davidson, as well as Dante Fowler Jr., the Falcons defensive line may be the best it has been in a long time. Falcons fans can only hope.
