While college basketball fans were stunned by events that caused the injury to Duke's Zion Williamson last night in their 88-72 loss to arch-rival North Carolina, the major question asked by John and Hugh of The Morning Show surrounded the talented forward's basketball future.
After the game, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said it was only a "mild knee sprain" for Williamson. But the potential number one pick in this year's NBA Draft will have an MRI later this afternoon to see if the injury is more serious.
Williamson's Nike shoe disintegrated 36 seconds into Wednesday night's game, stunning the sellout crowd and national TV audience. The right knee injury sidelined him for the remainder of the contest.
Basketball Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen drew criticism following his comments suggesting Williamson end his collegiate career to focus on the NBA. Well, after last night's injury, John and Hugh debated whether it's time for him to focus on his future.
After last night's shoe blowout and resulting knee injury - a mild one, according to Mike Krzyzewski - if you were freshman phenom and potential #NBA #1 overall pick, @ZionW32, would you shut it down for the rest of the season?
— 92.9 The Game (@929TheGame) February 21, 2019Hugh believes the 6'8" superstar should return when healthy and ride out the rest of the season. Meanwhile, John agreed with the majority on our Twitter poll that Williamson should do what's best for him and his family.
If the MRI reveals he's capable of playing immediately, Williamson and the Blue Devils return to action this Saturday at Syracuse.
