The 2020 NFL Draft is just 10 days away and will look a lot different this year.
Instead of the pop and pageantry of prospects walking the red carpet and coaches and general managers gathering in war rooms around the country, everything will be done virtually in the confines of one another's own homes due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The virtual change will make things more complicated with potenatial glitches.
NFL Insider Adam Caplan joined Andy and Randy on Monday and brought up another challenge that we may not have thought of up to this point: undrafted free agents.
"The big one guys is--and this one's going to happen right after the draft--is the signings of undrafted free agents where there's usually a frenzy," Caplan said.
"What happens is, under normal circumstances, you have your entire personnel staff in your building; some are in the same room, and you just go back-and-forth. Your general manager, in this case Thomas Dimitroff, will let them know what their budget is for undrafted free agents and they'll go back-and-forth. They have to report back on them very quickly."
"In this case, no one will be together. They'll all be in their own houses. And Thomas will have to be on the what's called 'Microsoft Teams' talking to everyone and he's also going to have to use his cell phone, through text, and he's going to have to know exactly what they're offering."
'The way it works is, generally, you havea budget and sometimes, this has happened before with teams, they over extend themselves and they have to back out of deals. It's probably going to be worse here."
"Those undrafted free agents are so critical to teams because you can't pay everybody."
