Commissioner of the XFL Oliver Luck joined Dukes and Bell to talk about the new TV package, the obstacles facing the league and the difference in the league today as opposed to it’s first existence.
Luck talked about the obstacles the league is facing.
“I think it can work.” Luck said “We’re battling some pretty stiff odds, time and resources are something that our owner Vince McMahon has been able to give us so I think we have a fighting chance.”
When asked about if the league had any expansion thought.
“We’ve got business plans that lay out over five years.” Luck said “I’m reluctant to talk about expansion because we haven’t played a damn game yet, we have plans that go into cities like Atlanta which are good football markets but I feel silly even talking about expansion right now.”
Oliver said that the TV package for the league is a game changer.
“That’s a game changer.” Luck said “We will have more than 50% of our games on broadcast tv, that’s serious, it’s easy to find viewing, it’s destination viewing. We think we can have a good product for viewing and now we have the platform for viewing and Vince has to be given credit for that, we are totally pumped for the opportunity that we have.”
Luck talked about the difference between the XFL today and from the one in 2001.
“There’s very little in common with the XFL 2020 and the XFL from 2001.” Luck said “We think we can have an up-tempo fast paced football without resorting to what I consider gimmicks, we want to have real football for our players, coaches and fans.”
