The Atlanta Braves have been in the headlines of late with the recent signings of outfielder Mike Yastrzemski, right-hand pitcher Robert Suarez and short-stop Ha-Seong Kim and while the 2025 MLB Winter Meetings officially over, the Braves’ recent offseason moves signal their efforts to compete for the National League East and World Series titles.
On Tuesday, Atlanta Braves President, Baseball Operations and General Manager, Alex Anthopoulos joined 92-9 The Games Carl Dukes and Mike Bell to discuss the latest roster additions and share some insight as to whether or not the club may continue with more signings, in particular a starting pitcher.
“We’ve explored the starting rotation, adding and getting some type of starter, whether that’s trade or signing,” Anthopoulos said as he addressed the team’s position in regards to potentially bolstering their rotation. “We’d like for it to be someone impactful, someone we think can start a playoff game,” Anthopoulos said, noting the team is in a good place with their current starters.
“We like the four guys we have locked in in terms of [Reynaldo] Lopez, [Spencer] Strider, [Spencer] Schwellenbach, [Chris] Sale,” Anthopoulos said and explained as of now, the fifth spot would be a competition between current Braves’ pitchers Hurston Waldrep, Bryce Elder and Grant Holmes.
“It would be great if we could add someone that maybe slots everybody down a peg in our rotation,” Anthopoulos continued. “Haven’t closed the door on that. Still open to it if it can present itself,” the Braves GM said.
