The Atlanta Braves have a chance to get a stranglehold on the NL East this weekend, and need to make the most of this opportunity. Earlier today, The Morning Shift previewed the Braves big weekend series with the Marlins starting tonight.
Coming into tonight’s game Atlanta and Miami both have won five games in a row. The Braves are 20-4 in the month of June and the Marlins are 19-7. The Marlins are currently six games behind the Braves for first place in the NL East.
The Braves have a chance to go up nine games in the division if they sweep the Marlins like they did the last time they faced off in a three game series. Atlanta is set to get off on a strong foot tonight as Bryan Hoeing will be the starter for Miami tonight.
The Braves’ bats did well against Hoeing when they faced him on April 25th. Hoeing gave up four runs on six hits, walked two batters, and had two strikeouts in 3 ⅔ innings of work, and Atlanta ended up winning the game 7-4.
The one thing the Braves don’t want to do this weekend is make the Marlins feel like they have a chance to still win the division. Atlanta has already swept the Phillies and Mets earlier this month, and took two out of three against the Nationals. It's time for the Braves to continue to assert their dominance in the NL East and sweep the Marlins in Truist Park.
