The Atlanta Braves set all sorts of records on Wednesday night in their historic 29-9 win over the Miami Marlins.

Most of those records were impressive feats from the offense, starting pitcher Tommy Milone also made history on Wednesday night – just not the good kind.

In his third start since being traded from the Orioles, the Braves were able to score 11 runs in the second inning to give Milone an 11-2 lead to work with, but. he failed to pitch beyond the fourth after allowing eight runs in total to the Marlins.

In Milone’s debut with the Braves, he was spotted a 10-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning before he was pulled in the third after allowing seven runs total to the Phillies.

According to STATS, this makes Milone the “first starting pitcher in the modern era to have his team score 10-plus runs in an inning while he was in the game twice in the same season and not earn the win in either one.”

Obviously, that is not quite the badge of honor.

Milone has had a tough time since he was traded to Atlanta. He has failed to pitch beyond the fourth inning in any of his starts and has an astronomical 14.90 ERA. In his first six starts of the season with the Orioles, Milone posted a 3.99 ERA.

The good news is the Braves’ offense seems to explode every time Milone pitches as they are 3-0 in his starts.

Yet, Atlanta is going to need more out of Milone as it tries to navigate the remainder of the season and playoffs without its two top pitchers in Mike Soroka and Max Fried.
