Bryce Elder's 1-hit outing had been a long time coming

Bryce Elder was one of the best pitchers in the National League in the first half of the season, earning himself and All-Star berth. But since returning from the break he's had a very up-and-down run of performance. Tuesday night's start was one of his best of the season.

Bryce Elder threw 7 innings allowing just one hit and zero runs, and 92.9 The Game Braves Insider Grant McAuley feels Elder has been close to getting those results, but they just didn't happen.

"He's been looking for these results for a while and hasn't felt like he's been throwing the ball as poorly as the result have been," explains McAuley. "Sticking with who he is as a pitcher, not trying to make wholesale changes, he continued to work the problem, took responsibility, and that allowed him to stay on task and get the job done."

Despite the feeling that Elder has been a liability recently, in three of his last five starts he's gone 6 or more innings and allowed two or fewer runs.
