92.9 The Game Atlanta Braves insider Grant McAuley joined Dukes & Bell for his daily appearance and talked about why Braves fans can still trust Kenley Jansen as the team’s closer down the stretch run.
When asked if the Braves can trust Jansen as the closer.
“Well I can tell you as far as trust issues with Kenley Jansen, I don’t think he would have been out there in that situation with the opportunity to work out of it himself if there was a trust issue,” McAuley said. “Now that appearance, easily up there with that blown save against the Dodgers a couple of months ago, which by the way, those are his only two blown saves since June the first when the Braves went on their big tear. This is a guy that more times than not is going to get the job done but he’s not gonna be perfect and there are going to be nights like that. And while it is painful and an excruciating way to lose a game, he’s well aware of that, the team’s well aware of that and it doesn’t make any more fun from a fans standpoint.”
McAuley said he understands concerns on Jansen.
“I certainly understand the concern about that especially this time of year when you’re losing games and days off the calendar when everything is just amped up to the nth degree of it’s importance. Kenley is the guy for the Braves, he’s the one that’s going to get those ninth inning duties that doesn’t mean though that he’s the only high leverage reliever that the Braves need to be able to trust.”
