Audacy.com MLB Insider Tony Gwynn Jr. joined Dukes & Bell for his weekly appearance on the show and talked about the team’s NLDS series against the Phillies and why the bottom half of the order is the key to another deep Braves postseason run.

When asked about the bottom of the Braves lineup’s struggles.

“The same thing has been happening with the Padres in this Dodgers-Padres series and the Padres-Mets series was the bottom of the lineup, when it’s producing it almost makes you unbeatable,” Gwynn Jr. said. “Because the top half of the lineup you seemingly are always going to get production but it’s when the bottom half is also kicking in now all of a sudden you’re putting up five, six, seven runs and that becomes difficult to beat in any postseason environment.”

Gwynn Jr. talked about the bottom of the lineup being key to Braves run last postseason.

“It’s not that you can’t win without the bottom of the lineup, we saw the Braves do it this past game, they put up three runs that largely came from the top of the lineup but when you get the portion from the bottom half.
That’s what we saw last year is why they put up so many runs and was so tough to beat is because you’re turning that lineup over and you just become really tough to beat no matter what the pitching staff looks like on the other side.”
