Baseball author Joe Posnanski joined Dukes & Bell to talk about labor strife between the owners and players union and have they overplayed their hand?
When asked if the sport has overplayed their hand.
“I think they are overplaying their hand, look the big, big baseball fans among us we’re just suckers, we’re always going to come back. They know they have us, they can treat us however they want, I mean it’s bad, it’s bad but it’s true,” Posnanski said. “Here’s the thing, the group of us, the people that really care about baseball, smaller and smaller all the time. The younger generation not into baseball like the older generation is, it’s not like baseball is suffering, baseball’s making billions of dollars, it’s not like it’s a dying business.”
Posnanski talked about how horrified he is with what is happening.
“It is a sport that is not like ’94 and even in ’94 it wasn’t like it was in ’81 or ’75 the sport is definitely shifting and for these guys to do this right now when there’s so many good young players. Obviously you guys down in Atlanta having the time of your life last year it’s unconscionable is what it is, for them to be treating the sport like this at this time, it’s absolutely horrifying.”
