Matt Olson led the Atlanta Braves to a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners last night in Seattle in game two of their three game series with the Mariners after hitting a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the ninth inning. Olson now leads the National League in home runs (13), RBI (33), runs (35), slugging (.685), and OPS (1.077).
Matt leads Major League Baseball outright in doubles (15), RBI (33) and runs scored (35).The Braves first baseman is the first player to hold the outright MLB lead in all three categories at the end of any day in May or later since Ted Williams through games of September 19, 1949, and earlier today The Morning Shift explained why it’s time to start talking about Olson as a legit MVP candidate.
“It’s time to start mentioning MVP candidate for Matt Olson.” Beau Morgan said
It’ll be hard for Matt to stay as hot as he is now for the entirety of the season, but if ends up having a year anywhere near the year he had in 2023 when he hit 54 home runs and had 139 RBI he will be a front runner for the 2026 NL MVP award.
