The Atlanta Braves have been counting on a youth movement to settle their starting staff as Kyle Wright and Max Fried remain on the IL. Another quality start from rookie AJ Smith-Shawver on Wednesday could go a long way in helping settle down a rotation that has seen several bumps in the road of late.
Spencer Strider set the tone on Tuesday after he rebounded following a string of rough outings. Smith-Shawver is set to make his third start and fourth appearance in the majors after being fast-tracked to the Braves.
In his young career, Smith-Shawver has given up just three earned runs and four walks in 13.1 innings pitched.
For now, the Braves will continue to rely on Bryce Elder, Jared Shuster, Dylan Dodd and Smith-Shawver to cement the back-end of their rotation with Spencer Strider and Charlie Morton remain the anchors.
