The Atlanta Braves 7-game win streak came to an end on Sunday in a loss to the Nationals and the Braves felt primed to start another winning streak when they handed the ball to Raisel Iglesias on Monday night with a 3-run lead entering the 9th inning. Unfortunately Iglesias blew the save, allowing 5 hits in the inning, and the Braves eventually lost the game in the 10th inning.
While Braves Manager Brian Snitker chalked the blown save up to "part of the life of a closer", Andy and Randy discussed if their level of concern for Iglesias extends beyond just one game.
"Yes, I've been like that (worried about Iglesias as a consistent closer), but the reality is Snit isn't going to move him out of that spot," says Randy McMichael, "it's how he loses and who he loses to."
The frustration of last night's loss also comes from Iglesias blowing a game to the Oakland A's, the worst team in baseball.
"When he does have it, it's so nasty, but when he doesn't have it it's a dumpster fire doused in gasoline. No chance he wasn't going to blow that game last night," says Andy Bunker.
Despite the frustration, Iglesias has actually only have two blown saves on the season in twelve chances, and had gotten his ERA down to 2.45 before last night's outing blew it back up to 4.02.
Before allowing 5 hits last night, Raisel Iglesias had given up just 2 hits in his previous 12 appearances.
