The Atlanta Braves kicked off Grapefruit League play with a 9-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.

It wasn't the debut that Kyle Wright was likely hoping for. The right-hander allowed four hits and three runs in only 1 1/3 innings of work.

But we did get a chance to see Sean Newcomb in relief. What is the role for him? What are we hoping that Newcomb does for the Braves in 2021?

"I think that his time as a starter, at least with this Braves organization, has passed," 92.9 The Game Braves' reporter Joe Patrick told the Midday Show.

Patrick said manager Brian Snitker was very high on Newcomb following Sunday's game despite his numbers.

Newcomb allowed one hit, one run, two walks and two strikeouts in his one inning of work.

"Realistically speaking, I think you just want him to be a dependable left-handed arm in that bullpen."
