In between conversations about the Falcons' improbable victory over the Panthers, there was no shortage of Halloween conversation around the 92.9 The Game studios today, so naturally, the Midday Show crew and I ended up trying to compare Atlanta’s top sports stars to candy. Here’s what we came up with and we’d love to hear yours on social media!
Trae Young - Reese’s Pieces: Not the biggest guy in the NBA, Young embodies the widely popular candy by proving that great things come in small packages. Beau Johnson pointed out that Reese’s Pieces are great but not on the level of the OG peanut butter cup, so we’ll say that comparison goes to Steph Curry.
Dejounte Murray - Red Hots - A new addition to the Atlanta sports scene, Murray has shown that he’s not going to sugarcoat his feelings after a game and brings an added level of spice the Hawks' roster.
Kyle Pitts - Toblerone: When Brian Gebhardt and I shared that we had never had the triangular chocolate bar filled almond and honey nougat, we seemed to prove Andy Bunker’s point that the obscure candy bar “is great, but you never see it.” While Pitts did lead the Falcons with 5 catches for 80 yards and a score Sunday, Falcons fans need to see more.
Grady Jarrett - King-Sized Butterfinger: As the anchor of the Falcons' defensive line at 305 pounds, I knew whatever we picked for Jarrett had to be king-sized. From there, Gebhardt came up with the crunchy candy bar saying that the filling sticks in your teeth for as long as you’d feel it if you got sacked by the former Clemson Tiger.
Cordarrelle Patterson - Variety bag: Kind of a cop-out answer, but as we continued to kick around ideas for the Falcons Swiss-army knife, we figured that Patterson could be any given piece of candy that you find in your bucket after a long night of trick-or-treating.
Dansby Swanson - Payday: This was a tough one, we could’ve used ‘Money’ Mike Harris as the comp for a Payday or one of the other members of the Braves core with a long-term deal, but maybe we’re trying to manifest Swanson getting a deal done to stay in Atlanta this offseason.
Ronald Acuña Jr. & Ozzie Albies - Twix: It’s only right that the two best friends in the Braves clubhouse share a comparison as a fan favorite. Twix are always exciting and beloved by everyone.
Max Fried - Milky Way: When thinking of a candy for the Braves' reserved ace, we thought, which candy bar is solid but not in your face about it? The unsuspecting Milky Way with its smooth nougat and caramel center seemed like the right choice.
Eddie Rosario - Candy Corn: Reminiscing on the 2021 NLCS, Gebhardt quipped that the Braves outfielder resembles the hotly-debated candy saying it’s best in October.
