The start of the 2025 Atlanta Braves season has not exactly gone as planned. The Braves started the season by getting swept by both the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers in a tough west-coast road trip. The Braves then return home to face the Miami Marlins Friday night, and it appeared that all they needed was a little home cooking. The Braves exploded with 10 runs against the Marlins Friday night, in what ended up being a route of their National League Eastern division rivals. The Braves dropped the next game versus the Marlins on Saturday, but the story of the weekend was Braves’ second-year starter Spencer Schwellenbach.
Schwellenbach went 8-7 with a 3.35 ERA in what ended up being a fantastic rookie season in 2024, and has now pitched to a 1-0 start, with a zero ERA and 14 strikeouts through 14 innings through two starts. The future is indeed bright for Schwellenbach, and he is only going to get better.
And as Chris Sale comes off of a Cy Young winning 2024 season, and a good looking start to 2025, he is being out-pitched by the Braves young phenom. Abe Gordon and Beau Morgan discuss the Braves rotation and start to the season with Fanduel sports network, and Braves play-by-play broadcaster Brandon Gaudin.
