Audacy.com MLB insider Tony Gwynn Jr. joined Dukes & Bell for his weekly appearance on the show and talked about the start of the MLB playoffs and with the new format could teams with extended time off be at a disadvantage?
When asked if the long break is a good thing or a bad thing for the team’s with the bye.
“In terms of the Braves there’s some healing, some health issues that six days will allow for guys to possibly heal up and be closer to 100 percent but on the flip side of that I think that is the largest unknown that we have with this new format,” Gwynn Jr. said. “How will the teams with byes be able to keep momentum or pick up where they left off when the series begins because typically most guys that play don’t want six days off, there’s a lot of complaints about the all-star break being too long.”
Gwynn Jr. talked about how the time could allow Spencer Strider to be ready for NLDS.
“We won’t have enough data in these first couple of years but over time it will be interesting to see how these teams who get the bye fare, is it more important to get back on the horse and keep going or is the rest valid and teams can kinda combat some of the issues that come with it, I think we don’t know yet so we will have to find out and see. But in terms of the Braves you certainly don’t mind the six days especially when you got guys like Strider fighting things like the oblique, you want the time to allow guys to heal.”
