Earlier today The Morning Shift was reacting to some of the things that Atlanta Falcons quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had to say to the media and to The Midday Show with Andy and Randy yesterday, and explained why they think all of the pressure is on Michael Penix Jr. to win the Falcons starting quarterback job over Tua Tagovailoa.

“Michael Penix probably feels way more of a sense of pressure. He hasn’t gotten that $200 million-dollar contract. He still is playing on a rookie deal for a team that he hasn’t proven he can be the guy for.” Mike Johnson said

Tua has at least proven he can have success in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins are still paying the former fifth overall pick a ton of money even though he isn’t on the team any more because of the big money deal he secured a few years ago, and worst case scenario he’s going to be a reliable back up for an NFL team for years to come.

However, Michael Penix Jr. hasn’t had any real NFL success, and he’s still on a rookie deal, so if he doesn’t prove himself this season whether it be because he can’t stay healthy or he doesn’t play well the worst case scenario for the former eighth overall pick is that he’s out of the league in a few years or he becomes a journeyman quarterback who never gets that big money deal.
