Michael Penix Jr. looks to prove Falcons didn;t make 'a bad decision'
The Atlanta Falcons are nearing the end of their second week of organized team activities and both Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa have been active participants, however it has been limited capacity for Penix Jr. as he continues to work his way back from surgery to repair a partially torn ACL and awaits clearance to be a full participant.
And while both quarterbacks have been receiving praise from new head coach Kevin Stefanski and several Falcons’ teammates, with no timeline established for Penix Jr. and the potential he will be available for the start of training camp, there remains speculation as to whether or not there will be a true quarterback competition for the starting quarterback role, fueling conversations surrounding the Falcons’ selection of the third-year quarterback.
“It was a bad decision,” 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes said as he explained why some NFL executives believe Penix Jr.’s injury history and being an older player was the wrong pick by Atlanta. “When you look at it from that perspective, it’s hard for me to sit here and tell you that in four or five years that he’s carrying this team and that he has blossomed into this amazing, elite quarterback,” Dukes continued.
“That’s my issue with this, and it’s not personal, it is simply laying out the facts. We threw good money at a bad situation,” Dukes said as he shared why he believes “this competition is so important because it’s going to prove a lot to the fanbase and I think it’s going to prove a lot to guys on this team,” Dukes said.Can Michael Penix Jr. finally prove doubters wrong?
