Could Falcons be NFL's version of Kentucky Derby Champion Rich Strike?

Rich Strike set a new Kentucky Derby record on Saturday when it become the longest shot of all time to with the first leg of the triple crown at 80-to-1, but those are short odds compared to how oddsmakers view the Atlanta Falcons chances of winning the Super Bowl.

You can find the Falcons Super Bowl odds anywhere between 50-to-1 and 200-to-1, with the majority of places setting their lines at 100-to-1 or greater. Despite the distrust shown by the oddsmakers, Falcons Analyst and former WR Harry Douglas feels it isn't out of the question for the Falcons to be seriously competitive in 2022.

"You look at last year you see what they did with not much, still into Week 16 in playoff contention. They have the right mold and the right pieces to make some noise," says Douglas. "I believe in Arthur Smith and what he's doing.

"You'll never hear them (Smith and Fontenot) talk about a rebuild because as long as you have guys that want to do things the way you are coaching you always have a chance," continues Douglas. "Look at the Kentucky Derby, Rich Strike beat Epicenter, if you have 11 guys on offense, defense, and special teams you have a chance. You just have to execute and do what's asked of you."

The Falcons, who finished the 2021 season with a record of 7-10 and in 3rd place in the NFC South and will be replacing starting QB Matt Ryan with Marcus Mariota, added multiple expected starters on defense through free agency and the draft.
