Falcons analyst Dave Archer joined Dukes & Bell to talk about what the Falcons should do in the draft and how they could possibly trade back and still find the quarterback of the future.

Arch talked about drafting the quarterback of the future after the first round.

“I’m not in favor of taking a quarterback with that first pick, I’m in favor of trading back to 8 or 9, draft one of the top corners that’s left. Fairley out of Virginia Tech and Patrick Surtain will probably be sitting there, and get you another pick in the top 40.” Archer said “I’m not so sure that Jamie Newman is not as good as the guys at the top of this draft, we didn’t get a chance to see him play this year but I got a chance to do two of his games at Wake Forest and he has all the attributes you’re looking for.”

“A lot of people blame the reason that he’s not at the top of this draft is because he didn’t play this year one and number two he played in an RPO offense for Dave Clawson at Wake Forest and we don’t see as much RPO in the NFL.”

“Make no mistake he’s got a huge arm, tremendous athlete he’s just out of our minds because he didn’t play this year. I’m not so sure you couldn’t get him in the second round sometime and all of a sudden you do have your quarterback of the future and you didn’t waste a pick in the top ten and got a guy that could help you this year.”
