If you would have told me that the Atlanta Falcons would be 6-7 with the season on the line on Monday Night Football versus the Las Vegas Raiders after starting the season 6-3, I probably would have called you a troll. Well, here we are. The Falcons are riding a 4-game losing streak, have succumbed first place in the NFC South to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Kirk Cousins has not thrown a touchdown in over a month while throwing eight interceptions. Is this what “Falconing” is?
Despite losing the division lead to the Bucs, all hope is not lost. In fact, by sweeping the Bucs in the regular season and owning the NFC South tiebreaker, all the Falcons need to do is finish in a tie with the Bucs to win the division. It does but a little pressure on the Falcons, however, as the Bucs won Sunday versus the Chargers making their record 8-6. If the Falcons win tonight versus the Raiders, that would bring them to within a game with the Bucs, at 7-7, with 3 games left to play. The Bucs remaining opponents are the Cowboys, Panthers, and Saints, all teams with losing records. It is pretty safe to say that the Bucs may not take another loss, so that makes it even more apparent that the Falcons do the same. Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael dive a little further in to what SHOULD be a win versus the Raiders, but let us also not forget, that sometimes the “Falcons are going to Falcon”.
