Last night former NFL quarterback and now ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky joined Chris Thomas tonight with Chris Thomas and told him that he believes quarterbacks can get lazy with their footwork if they're in the pistol formation too much. After after hearing that earlier today Mike Johnson and Beau Morgan asked former Atlanta Falcons quarterback and now analyst for the Atlanta Falcons Radio Network Dave Archer for his take on what Orlovsky had to say, and the former Falcons QB said “there’s some merit” to what Dan is saying.
“There is some merit to it that you can get a little bit lazy with your feet, and if you’re already kind of in that mode like Michael [Penix Jr.] was last weekend then it can manifest itself into not the looks you’re looking for and maybe not being in position the way you’re supposed to.” Archer said
Dave said the lazy feet can stem from the “lack of needing to explode out from underneath center” because when you’re in the pistol all you do really is turn, take one step, and hand the ball.
After being shutout by the Carolina Panthers last game everybody on the Falcons’ offense has things they need to improve on, and everyone needs to have a bounce back game, and that especially goes for Michael Penix Jr. who needs to clean up his fundamentals, decision making, and of course his footwork if the Falcons’ are going to have a legitimate chance to beat the Commanders on Sunday.
