With the Atlanta Falcons parting ways with general manager Thomas Dimitroff and head coach Dan Quinn, the team is heading in a new direction. Will that direction include franchise quarterback Matt Ryan? The guys on Dukes & Bell talked about owner Arthur Blank’s comments about the future of Ryan with the team.
Carl liked what Arthur Blank had to say about the future of the franchise quarterback.
“That’s what I want to hear from my owner," Dukes said. "Earn it. I’ve paid you for what I think you’ve done for this franchise, I’ve paid you for the MVP, I’ve paid you for being the winningest quarterback, I’ve paid you for the 50,000 yards, I’ve paid you for the playoff runs. I can go down the list. Earn it.
"You want to be here, let’s play like champions every time we get out on the field. That’s what I want to hear from my owner. They’ve both said that the new coach and general manager will handle the roster moving forward, they will not decide on any roster moves right now because they don’t want to purge a roster without the eyes of the new coach and general manager making those decisions.”
Mike talked about evaluating players on what they have done recently not over an entire career.
“We all know the job Matt has done, we take this stuff on a season-by-season basis," Bell said. "The last couple of years Matt did amazing stuff without the running game and solid protection. But this year Matt has not been good and Arthur Blank just said it. Nothing is guaranteed.”
