Dj Shockley: Falcons will "push ball vertically" with Michael Penix Jr.

Kirk Cousins, Zac Robinson, and the Atlanta Falcons weren’t afraid to take deep shots down the field last season, and had success doing it at times, but with Michael Penix Jr.’s arm talent, Zac Robinson now settled in as an offensive coordinator and player caller it feels like the deep shots are going to be an even bigger part of the Falcons offense this season.

Earlier today former Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Falcons quarterback and now Sports Director at FOX5 Atlanta Dj Shockley joined The Morning Shift and explained why Falcons fans should expect Penix Jr. and the offense to “push the football vertically” this season.

“You can expect this offense to push the football vertically which should make a lot of Falcons fans excited and happy to watch this season because he [Michael Penix Jr.] is not afraid to put that thing 20, 25, 30, 35 yards down the field to give his guys a chance to make a play.”

A lot of quarterbacks are hesitant to push the ball down the field sometimes because they’re afraid to throw an interception and make a mistake, but based off of some of the throws Michael Penix Jr. made last season along with the throws he’s made during training camp so far he seems like he has no fear, and that’s good news for Falcons fans.

If this Falcons’ offense can become one that is known for connecting and scoring on a lot of vertical and deep plays down the field that will just open things up more for the rest of the Falcons’ offense, including a running game that is already pretty darn good, and that will just make for an offense that is that much more explosive and dangerous.
