Falcons can establish dominance in South by knocking off champs

Like Falcons broadcaster Wes Durham said: “The Falcons stole one in the thick of the night” on Monday Night Football vs the Philadelphia Eagles. The drive that they had in the final minutes in the fourth quarter silenced a lot of doubters as well as gave the team a tremendous vote of confidence. Now it is on to Sunday night, where the reigning world champion Kansas City Chiefs are coming to town.

After losing game one of the 2024 season to the Pittsburgh Steelers, many thought that the Falcons may not win a game until week six when they face the troubled Carolina Panthers. But after Monday night’s win, attitudes have changed a bit. Kirk Cousins looked like his former self in the second half, the ground game was humming, and the pass catchers all showed up and contributed. With the fantastic starts by both the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Falcons initially looked like they may be left in the proverbial dust, but that may not be the case any longer if they can find a way to knock off the scuffling world champs on Sunday Night Football.
