Falcons' coaching decisions are failing their skill players

The Atlanta Falcons are searching for answers after falling at home to the Minnesota Vikings 31-28. The latest crushing defeat for this team put them back below .500 at 4-5 with an upcoming trip to Arizona, arguably the worst team in the league. One would think that sets up for a much-needed win, but after the last two weeks nothing is guaranteed for this squad. The worst part of this mini collapse has been that the same issues continue to plague the team.

What has happened to the Falcons’ primary weapons? Drake London sat out the contest with a groin injury. Mack Hollins exited the contest with an ankle injury along with Cordarrelle Patterson. But what about Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts? The duo combined for just over 100 all-purpose yards, something that has happened far too often this season.

Coach Arthur Smith has been highly criticized for his choice of play calling in critical moments and in the red zone. Jonnu Smith and Tyler Allgeire were featured in a red zone trip on the one-yard line that failed to produce a touchdown. Last week, Smith was called upon to throw the ball inside the ten while Pitts blocked on the play. Getting back to basics should be the utmost priority for this team as they head to Arizona and then have a bye week for a full reset.
